The dune line
Sunset Beach is built on the dunes, and its doors get sand as well as salt — sand in the roll-up guides, sand in the sectional's bottom track and rollers, sand in the motor's rail. Clearing it is part of every visit, and a cable and track call here usually starts with a roller running on grit. The salt does the rest: boards corrode, cables rust, bottom panels go from the edge.
The specification
Stainless hinges, rollers, cables and fixings, a sealed panel edge, and a motor on a service interval — the Atlantic Seaboard specification, plus the sand. A door fitted here like a suburban door is replaced every few years, and a panel replacement comes with stainless hinges as a matter of course.
Getting here
Sunset Beach is off the R27 and a reasonable drive. Milnerton, Table View and Bloubergstrand share the routes, and an emergency is attended at the honest window.
