Older streets, older doors
Milnerton is where the West Coast started, and its streets off Koeberg Road have single garages with steel tip-ups and early sectionals from the seventies — simple doors that get heavy when the springs lose tension and drag when the bearings go, worth keeping and easy to automate in place where the driveway has the swing. The lagoon-side homes and Woodbridge Island face the water and get the salt: bottom panels go from the edge, cables rust from the inside.
Wind off the bay
The south-easter comes across the lagoon and works a sectional's hinges and brackets loose, and drives sand into a roll-up's guides. Both are checked on every visit, and a motor repair on the water side often finds a corroded board.
Getting here
Milnerton is off the N1 or R27 and quick to reach — the closest West Coast suburb to the city. Table View, Century City and Bothasig share the routes, and an emergency is at the fast end of the coastal range.
