The beachfront blocks
Strand's Beach Road is apartment blocks, and their basement doors are commercial roller shutters and sectionals doing hundreds of cycles a day in False Bay's salt. The managing agent's call is treated as an emergency when a door is shut and a building cannot get out, and a planned service on the commercial motor — board inspected, cables checked, every replaceable part in stainless — is far cheaper than the failure.
The family streets
Behind the beachfront Strand is established family housing from the sixties and seventies with steel tip-ups that are simple, durable and getting heavy — pivot springs renewed, bearings replaced, and automation in place for households that no longer want to lift the door, on driveways with room for the swing.

Strand is a real drive out the N2, and the window says so; calls are paired with Somerset West and Gordon's Bay so the drive is not the whole job.
