Estates, and the developer motor
Somerset West has built estate after estate up the Helderberg slopes and out toward Somerset Mall, and their double sectionals were fitted at handover with the cheapest motor that would move them. They fail at year three or four on schedule, and the motor failure is the commonest call in the suburb. A motor sized for the door is the fix that lasts a decade, and the handover faults — beams never aligned, limits at default — are put right in the same visit. Every estate has a gate, and phoning the gatehouse while still on the phone to us is what shortens the wait.
The old village, and the wind
The older streets around the Main Road are established houses with steel tip-ups and sectionals doing the ordinary spring and roller work, and worth keeping. The Helderberg funnels the south-easter down onto the whole suburb, and a door facing it has its hinges and brackets worked loose — a cable and track call here is often a bracket the wind loosened.
Getting here
Somerset West is a real drive out the N2, and the window says so; calls are paired with Strand, Gordon's Bay and Stellenbosch so the drive is not the whole job. An emergency at night needs the estate gate sorted in advance.
