Established homes on the slope
Panorama is older than Plattekloof above it, and its doors are steel sectionals and tip-ups from the eighties on family houses that have not changed much. The slope decides the driveway, and a tip-up that swings out over a falling one has been fine for forty years while one facing a rising one has been left open — and is the one that gets replaced with a sectional. The rest is the ordinary work: a spring on a door that has done its cycles, a motor gear on a unit worth keeping.
Wind off the hill
The Tygerberg funnels the south-easter, and a Panorama door facing it takes a load. Sectional hinges and track brackets are checked more often here than in Goodwood below, and a cable and track call is often a bracket the wind has worked loose.
Getting here
Panorama is off the N1 via Plattekloof Road and quick to reach. Plattekloof, Parow and Monte Vista share the routes, and an emergency is at the fast end.
