Steel tip-ups, and forty years of use
Parow's streets were built in the fifties and sixties, and the single garages on them have steel tip-ups of the same age — simple, durable doors that get heavy when the pivot springs lose tension and drag when the bearings go. Most are still manual, and on Parow's driveways, which have the room, automation in place is the commonest new-work call and keeps a door that would cost far more to replace.
Businesses and shutters
Along Voortrekker Road and toward N1 City the premises have roller shutters on commercial cycles, and a shutter on a domestic motor fails on a schedule. A motor rated for the use ends the repeats, and a shutter stuck open on a business overnight is an emergency, secured first.
Getting here
Parow is on the N1 and quick to reach. Bellville, Goodwood and Monte Vista share the routes.
