The slope
Plattekloof climbs the Tygerberg, and its garages are cut into the hill with driveways that fall or rise steeply to the door. That decides the door type more than preference does: a tip-up that swings out over a falling driveway is fine, one that swings into a rising driveway is not, and a sectional that lifts straight up is the usual answer. The stands are large and the doors are double and triple, on heavy springs and motors that the van carries in the right sizes.
Estates, and the developer motor
Nearly all of Plattekloof is behind an estate gate, and the gate arrangement decides the arrival time. The doors were fitted at build with developer motors on double sectionals they were never rated for, and the year-four motor failure is the commonest call. A motor sized for the door is the fix that lasts.
Getting here
Plattekloof is off the N1 via Plattekloof Road and quick to reach, with the estate gate the delay. Bellville, Panorama and Welgemoed share the routes, and an emergency at night needs the gate sorted in advance.
