The village frontage
Franschhoek's main street and the lanes off it are a protected streetscape, and a garage door on a Cape Dutch or Victorian frontage is part of the view. A timber tip-up in the right colour, kept and automated in place, or a like-for-like replacement made to the opening, suits it; a bare steel sectional does not, and installation starts with what the village will accept.
Guest houses and farms
Much of the village is guest houses, and a guest-house garage door is operated by people who have never seen it before — which means a motor with auto-close, beams that actually work, and a receiver that is wiped and re-paired on a schedule so last month's guest cannot open it. The wine farms around the village have outbuildings with wide doors on heavy springs and motors rated for the width, and the van carries the sizes.
Getting here
Franschhoek is the far end of the Winelands and a real drive; the window is quoted honestly and calls are paired with Stellenbosch and Paarl so the drive is not the whole job. An emergency is attended at the honest window.
