Steep lanes and heritage frontages
Simon's Town climbs the mountain above St George's Street in steep lanes, and its garages are cut into the slope with the City Bowl's problems — odd openings, low headroom on one side, driveways that drop to the lane. A roll-up is usually the door that fits. The historic frontages along the main street have a heritage overlay, and a timber tip-up kept and automated in place, or a like-for-like replacement, suits them where a bare steel sectional does not.
Salt off the harbour
The doors face the harbour and get the salt in every south-easter: boards corrode, cables rust, panels bubble. Stainless hardware, a sealed panel edge and a motor on a service interval is the specification, and it matters more here because the drive to fix it twice is long.
Getting here
Simon's Town is the far end of the False Bay road and a real drive; the window is quoted honestly and calls are paired with others on the peninsula. Fish Hoek, Kommetjie and Scarborough share the routes, and an emergency is attended at the honest window.
