The far end
Scarborough is a small village on the Atlantic side of the far peninsula, with Misty Cliffs beside it and Cape Point beyond, and its doors get the weather that Kommetjie gets with even less shelter. Spray, wind and sand together: boards corrode, cables rust through, panels go from the edge, guides fill with grit. Stainless everything, a sealed panel edge, guides cleared on every visit, and a motor on a service interval — because the drive to fix it twice is the longest on the peninsula.
Holiday homes and one visit a year
Most of Scarborough is holiday property, and the honest arrangement is one service a year in spring — springs checked, rollers freed, batteries replaced, board inspected — so the door opens in December without an emergency call that takes the best part of a day to attend. Scarborough is the longest drive on the peninsula, and the window says so honestly; calls are paired with Kommetjie, Simon's Town and Noordhoek so the drive is not the whole job.
