Wide doors, long driveways
Noordhoek is smallholdings and equestrian properties, and its garages are wide — doors for bakkies, horseboxes and trailers, on heavy springs and motors rated for the width, and the van carries the heavy sizes. The driveways are long, which means a remote that reaches from the road and a receiver with the range for it, and which means a technician on an emergency at night needs the gate arrangement made in advance.
Wind and salt off the beach
The south-easter comes off Long Beach and up the valley, and a door facing it has its hinges and brackets worked loose — a cable and track call here is often a bracket the wind loosened. The properties toward the beach get the salt too, and stainless hardware with a sealed panel edge is the specification on any door facing the sea. A roll-up in its guides handles the most exposed openings.
Getting here
Noordhoek is a real drive via Ou Kaapse Weg or Chapman's Peak, and the window says so. Fish Hoek, Kommetjie and Hout Bay share the routes.
