Three Hout Bays
Hout Bay is large enough to be three suburbs. The valley floor toward Constantia Nek is family homes with double sectionals and the ordinary spring and motor work, under trees that fill the tracks. The harbour side is working premises with roller shutters doing commercial cycles and salt spray on every part. The slopes above the beach are big houses facing the sea with the Atlantic Seaboard's specification — stainless hardware, sealed panels, a motor on a service interval.
Wind through the valley
The south-easter funnels through Hout Bay's valley, and a door facing it has its hinges and brackets worked loose over years — a cable and track call here is often a bracket the wind loosened. A roll-up in its guides handles the most exposed openings, and it is what the harbour premises run.
Getting here
Hout Bay is a real drive from the city over Constantia Nek or Victoria Road, and the window says so. Llandudno, Constantia and Noordhoek share the routes, and an emergency at night is attended at the honest window for the road.
