Villas and their doors
Camps Bay's houses are large, on steep stands above Victoria Road, with double and triple garages facing the sea. The doors are worth specifying properly — stainless hardware, sealed panels, springs and motors rated for wide doors — and servicing on a schedule, because a failure caught on a service visit costs a fraction of the same failure on a Saturday night with the house open to Victoria Road. A motor repair here often finds a salt-corroded board on a motor that would have lasted years inland.
Holiday lets, and the December door
A large share of Camps Bay is holiday property, and a door that has stood closed through a wet winter will not open in December: springs set, rollers rusted in, receiver batteries flat, motor board corroded in the damp. A service in October is cheaper than the December emergency, and a managing agent who books one for every property under management saves the season.
Getting here
Camps Bay is minutes from the city over Kloof Nek. Clifton, Bakoven and Tamboerskloof share the routes, and season traffic on Victoria Road is the only delay. Discretion is arranged as a matter of course.
