Complexes, and the shared wall
Brackenfell's townhouse complexes put a dozen garages on the same wall, and a remote that opens the neighbour's door is a real and regular call here. A receiver on a different frequency ends it. The complexes also have the developer-motor problem — cheap units on doors they were never rated for, failing at year four — and a motor sized for the door is the fix that lasts.
Cape Gate estates and Protea Heights
The estates around Cape Gate are new-build double sectionals with handover faults — beams never aligned, limits at default — put right in one visit. Protea Heights and the older Brackenfell streets are established houses with steel tip-ups and sectionals from the eighties and the ordinary spring and roller work, and a motor repair there is usually a gear on a unit worth keeping.
Getting here
Brackenfell is off the N1 via Old Paarl Road and reasonably quick. Durbanville, Kraaifontein and Kuils River share the routes, and an emergency at night needs the complex gate sorted in advance.
