Carved into the cliff
Bantry Bay is built on a cliff, and its garages are carved into it — openings cut into rock with almost no headroom, driveways that drop off Victoria Road, and doors that face the open Atlantic with nothing in between. A roll-up that coils into a barrel is often the only door that fits the opening, and it is specified with stainless guides and fixings because the salt here is spray, not air. A panel replacement comes with a sealed edge and stainless hinges as a matter of course, because doing it any other way means doing it again in three years.
Getting here
Bantry Bay is minutes from the city along Victoria Road, with parking on the cliff the only delay. Sea Point, Fresnaye and Clifton share the routes, and an emergency is at the fast end.
