The beachfront and the slope
Muizenberg is two places. The flat behind Surfer's Corner and along the Main Road is cottages and small blocks facing False Bay, and their doors get the salt — motor boards corrode, cables rust from the inside, bottom panels bubble from the edge. Up Boyes Drive the houses are cut into the mountain with the City Bowl's problems: openings with no headroom on one side, driveways falling to the road, and a roll-up or a low-headroom sectional as the door that fits.
The blocks along the beachfront have basement doors on the managing agent's list, and a commercial motor in the salt is on a planned service interval or it is on borrowed time.
Holiday lets and the surf crowd
Muizenberg has more holiday lets and short-term rentals than anywhere else on False Bay, and a door that stands closed through a wet winter will not open in December — springs set, rollers rusted in, receiver batteries flat. A service in October is cheaper than the December emergency, and a receiver wipe between guests is the cheapest security a host can buy.
Getting here
Muizenberg is off the M3 or Prince George Drive and a reasonable drive. Lakeside, St James and Kalk Bay share the routes.
