Family homes, forty years on
Edgemead was built as one suburb in the seventies and eighties, and its doors are of an age: steel sectionals and tip-ups on family houses that have mostly kept them. They are good doors that need springs, rollers and bearings on the usual interval, and a motor repair here is usually a gear on a unit worth keeping. Where a door is still manual, automation in place on a crescent driveway with the room for the swing is the commonest new-work call.
The west-facing doors
The streets toward the N7 and Bothasig face the wind off the flats, and a sectional facing it has its hinges and brackets worked loose over years. A cable and track call there is usually a bracket the wind has loosened, and a service before winter catches it.
Getting here
Edgemead is off the N7 or the N1 and quick to reach. Goodwood, Bothasig and Monte Vista share the routes, and an emergency is at the fast end.
